We should nourish our bodies with healthy foods
It has taken me awhile, but I have completely weaned myself off of processed food. I have been living the paleo lifestyle since the beginning of the year, and have lost 10 pounds. You may think that 10 pounds is not a lot in 10 months, but it took me several years to become 45 pounds overweight, so I figure it’s going to take me several years to lose that weight. By losing it slowly, I’m guaranteed to that I won’t be going back to old habits. Beside, I am not a spring chicken anymore, and my metabolism is slower.
When I first started this blog, I was going to blog about food and Paleo. But this blog has taken on a life of its own. And that’s a good thing. As much as I love food, and trust me I LOVE FOOD, this blog is going the way of spirituality. Having a healthy body is also spiritual.
I have not been to a medical doctor in over 25 years, and that was to have a broken finger set. I refuse to put prescription medication on my mouth. I believe that we as humans have the ability to heal ourselves. This has been proven over and over again. One way we need to not become sick is not to put crap in our bodies. Read the labels on your food products. If you can’t pronounce it, don’t eat it. If you see high fructose corn syrup listed on a label, don’t buy it, More than likely that corn is a GMO (genetically modified organism). Same with sugar. Do not eat processed meats and cheeses. They are not good for you. Our country is at an all time high for having the most obese people on the planet. Not good, and this is because of our diets.
So let’s start with something simple, fruits and vegetables. I just came across an article in a 2005 Cooks Illustrated. It’s how to read a PLU (price lookup code) on fruits and vegetables. If you buy a banana in Whole Foods or in Kroger, that banana will have the same code. If it was conventionally grown, the number will be four digits. If it’s organic it will be five digits, with the first digit being a nine. If it is a GMO it too will be five digits starting with an eight. DO NOT BUY any fruit or vegetable that has a five digit code starting with an eight. IT IS NOT GOOD for you. But wait, this may not be true . . . That article was written in 2005 after all
Returning to the subject of Paleo. This is my diet of choice. If you have stomach problems, Crones disease, diabetes or high blood pressure, this is a diet for you. You need to find your own path, but whatever you do, please stay away from processed foods, and try as best you can to eat only organic foods. Remember, we are what we eat.
